Salthouse
I was told years ago that the saltmarshes of Salthouse, east of Blakeney on the north Norfolk coast, were used by Scottish drovers to feed up their cattle before the sales at St Faith’s. (As were nearly all the coastal marshes east and west of it.) So, we returned to the scene of many long-ago summer holidays with our young children, to have a last look.
Of course, Salthouse has changed since the 70’s, but there’s much that’s still the same. Pity the pub’s gone, but I suppose that’s the trend these days. As for the beach, that’s exactly as I remember it. We even found a carnelian, a stone we used to wander the beach looking for years ago.
#1-3 show pictures of the saltmarsh; #4 is the village from the marsh; #5 the road to Holt, from where the cattle would have come.
