Munslow LL
In late March 2017 we stayed in Church Stretton and walked to Little London Farm at Munslow at SO 508875. It was a horrible day and a beautiful walk. But all the houses looked too new to be Little Londons and everyone we wanted to talk to was out, shut firmly inside or unwilling to answer stray callers like us, so you’ll have to make do with the photos I took all those years ago. But they’ll give you a flavour.
The strange thing was, I didn’t quite understand why it was there. Little Londons are temporary homes to Welsh drovers, but this one didn’t seem to be on the road either to Shrewsbury Station or the South. Birmingham perhaps?
So where was the original Little London? Surely those beautiful green lanes weren't merely farm tracks or for pheasant shooting?
The only likely LL is to be found on the Nat. Library of Scotland 6” map (1890’s) at SO 507883, where there was a pond, a spring and a stance. But it’s all modernised now (move the blue button on the left of the map and you’ll see). The other houses around weren't there 100 years ago.
So there we are, until we return. Motto: don’t leave it too long for the memory to fade.
