Harting Down and East

There are many ways of exhausting oneself quickly; one is walking the South Downs Way eastwards from Harting Down car park.  But delightful sunshine made it (almost) a pleasure; plus, of course, the polite & friendly folk we met all the way to Buriton Farm and back.  (We managed to get lost, nonetheless, as well as exhausted.)

Beacon Hill is on the way.  Great Jumping J., it’s steep, but youngsters of 60 were leaping up it like stags on amphetamines.  (Must get some of those.  Tomorrow!)

I wanted to get to the farm because I thought it once may have been a stopping point for drovers on their way east to graze their beasts in Kent.  But the owner had never heard of the idea, there was no evidence and by that time all we could think of was getting back to the car park.  Last day of walking holiday.  That’s what it does…

But the folk of that area are so lucky.  Wow, the scenery!  No wonder everyone is in a good mood.  So I won’t spoil it all by moaning but show you a few photos instead.
