Down to the Avon
Despite my rant, it is possible to reach the Avon from Cleeve Prior because a footpath will take you there from SP 083497, where there is easy parking. But what you see when you reach the river is limited because (again) the C.C. refuses to clear the footpath along the eastern bank because of lack of funds. So #1 is all I have.
Hoping for better, we went over Bidford Bridge and drove to Abbots Salford (068053) and walked through a caravan park to the Avon. We met a charming couple who had been flooded eight times in seven months - crikey! - and walked along the west bank towards Worcester Meadow (#2). WM is so-called - I have been told - because of a bend in the Avon and the park is in Worcestershire too.
Much more excitingly, we found a old stone wall that led - we were told later - to an old bridge used by monks to carry salt south from Droitwich (#3).
That was the climax of the holiday. Historically, anyway. Drovers nowhere to be found (bar Pershore) - but monks galore!
